Driver killed, passengers injured as cars crash in Tobago

Nathaniel Thomas of Lambeau, Tobago, was killed in a vehicular accident around 2.20 p.m. yesterday near Signal Hill Junction on Claude Noel Highway.

Thomas was the driver of a white B14 Nissan Sunny, in which there were two other occupants, which collided with a grey Nissan Wingroad, with five people.

Fire officer David Thomas told the Sunday Express Thomas died on the spot.

 The other occupants were taken to the Scarborough General Hospital in serious condition.

Upon impact, the B14 plunged  down an embankment and collided with a tree.

One of the male passengers was thrown from the vehicle and was pinned below the wreckage.

Passers-by swung into action and assisted the victims, but Thomas could not be saved.

 Passengers suffered serious injuries to the upper parts of their bodies, including face and hands. 

However, a 15-year-old girl escaped without injury.

 Scarborough police are continuing investigations into the accident, along with Scarborough fire officials.

A Carnival Sunday accident in the same area claimed the lives of five people.

Alloy Duke, 49, of Cocrico Inn, Buccoo; Fernando Stewart, 36, of Providence Road, Mt Grace; Christion Stewart, 50, of Patience Hill; Nesta Hamilton, of Patience Hill; and Stevenson Winchester, 50, of Piccadilly Trace, Signal Hill, all died on the spot.
