Five houses damaged in Tobago wind and rain

The Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA)  reported five cases of damage in Tobago yesterday following heavy winds and rains overnight. 

The home of 37-year old  Kern Duncan of John Dial was damaged when due to the rainy weather the wooden pillars of the house shifted.  He has lived there for seven years but now it is on the verge of collapse. Its been classified by TEMA as a “danger”. 

 Duncan told the Express, the incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on Thursday after he arrived from work. He heard a crackling sound and got out of the house just in time. 

There was a stream of water gushing down the hill above his home.  

He estimates losses to be over $40,000 and would like contributions of cement, steel, gravel and wood so that he can repair his home. He is currently at his mother’s nearby home but this too has suffered water damage.  

Duncan said TEMA has advised him to demolish the whole structure and start over. He can be contacted at 474-6574. 

Faith Solomon of Buccoo also suffered damage to the galvanise roof of her home. 

There was a landslide in the village of Runnemede and a fallen utility pole in the King’s Bay district. 

In addition, parts of King Street, Delaford, were without an electricity supply for most of the day. Emergency officials visited various areas across Tobago offering assistance.
