The village of Buccoo witnessed a gruesome murder of a 36-year-old mother of three was yesterday. Dead is Burlinda Solomon-Sobers who was killed at her home by her ex-lover, who then killed himself.
Her 13-year-old daughter was also chopped in the attack and was hospitalized. Mrs. Solomon-Sobers was a former helper at Republic Bank and was killed by a 55 year old Daniel Benjamin, with whom she had ended an affair.
Mrs. Solomon Sobers body was was discovered at her home in a pool of blood. The assailant was found not too far away in some bushes frothing from his mouth. According to neighbors, the murder occurred some time around 8 a.m.
The Express reported that Benjamin wanted to rekindle the romance with Solomon-Sobers, who had intentions of reuniting with her husband, when tragedy struck.
Reports are that Benjamin, left his house armed with a cutlass, entered the home of Solomon-Sobers, and dealt her several chops about her body. Her daughter, Afyia Sobers, who was present at the of the incident, tried to intervene, but was also chopped on the fingers.
She ran out of the home to her aunt's house nearby and was rushed to the Scarborough Regional Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery to reattach her fingers.
Mr. Benjamin after chopping both the mother and daughter then left the house, drank a poisonous substance and callaped in the near by bushes in Buccoo. Police officials found his body frothing from the mouth, he later died.
The murder toll in Tobago now stands at five for the year, while the toll for Trinidad and Tobago stands at 367, according to an Express tally.
The Scarborough Homicide Bureau, led by Superintendent Garfield Moore, William Nurse and Sergeant Alexander, is continuing investigations into the matter.
