Machel Montano, Soca Superstar |
THE Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) has confirmed that they have suspended all existing ties with Soca Superstar Machel Montano.
TSTT, in a statement, gave no apparent reason for the suspension of its sponsorship with Montano. However, Montano was found guilty last month on charges of assaulting four persons at the Zen nightclub in Port of Spain on April 26, 2007, and on the charge of using obscene language. He was due to be sentenced on January 17, but the sentencing was adjourned on February 25.
A number of persons inclusive of non government organisations have called for TSTT to severe ties with the superstar, who was scheduled to perform at the TSTT-sponsored Soca in bSquare concert series at Woodford Square, Port of Spain today.
In its media release TSTT stated that "at this time it has suspended all existing arrangements between Mr. Montano and the company. However, TSTT wishes to reiterate to its customers that it is a long supporter of the nation's culture.
The company also wishes to assure the general public that it remains committed to its leading role in providing valued telecommunications services for the people of Trinidad and Tobago".
