Keep Calm Tobago

Orville London, Chief Secretary of the
Tobago House of Assembly
Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Chief Secretary Orville London has called on the people of Tobago not to panic, in light of the crime situation on the island.

London, speaking at yesterday’s THA media briefing in Scarborough, pleaded for a state of calm.
Last week, Tobago recorded two murders in less than 48 hours and there has also been a number of break-ins in Scarborough and environs, with some establishment’s showcases smashed.

“And I want to urge the people of Tobago this is not the time to panic, nor is it the time for finger pointing and blame laying,” said London. “This is the time for us to really utilise those qualities that make us a unique people.”

The Chief Secretary said citizens should be encouraged to make criminals uncomfortable in Tobago.

When asked to comment on a crime plan revealed to him by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Tobago) Brian Headley, London said some elements of the plan include an increase in manpower; additional CCTV cameras: community policing; and concentration on hot spots.

“We in Tobago have got to understand that we have home-grown criminals and we must not be naive. We must not be hypocritical and conclude that crime in Tobago is imported,” London added.
