More Leases Given out by THA at Argyle

The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) on Monday continued its programme of squatter regularization with the distribution of leases to nine of 44 families of Lammy Lands, Argyle.

Of the remaining 35 families 20 are with the Assembly's legal department for processing while the remaining parcels are still to be surveyed.

Chief Secretary Orville London who assisted in the distribution of the leases at the Calder Hall Administrative Complex said all 44 families will receive their leases by the end of the second quarter this year.

The families have been squatting at Lammy Lands for between five and 20 years. The parcels range from 500 square meters to 1,700 square meters.

Road Caves in at Roxborough

The Roxborough/Bloody Bay Road was completely cut off to vehicular traffic yesterday as the road caved in, a news release from the Tobago House of Assembly's Division of Infrastructure and Public Utilities said yesterday.

The release said workers with the Development Section were excavating the side of the road about a half mile from the Bloody Bay Junction in preparation for concrete casting of a retaining wall when the soil caved in towards the open trench.

No one was injured, the release stated.

Steel for the base had already been put in place over the last two days and the concrete truck was on site. However, the concrete work had to be cancelled, the release said.

Engineers are expected to excavate the soil and repair the roadway this morning, the release said.

Motorists wanting to get to L'Anse Fourmi or Bloody Bay should use the alternative routes through Moriah or the Charlotteville/L'Anse Fourmi Link Road.

The Division will keep the public abreast of the situation, the release said.

The Road would be re opened on Friday 5th of October.
