WASA to Ration Water for Tobago

THE Water and Sewerage Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (WASA) has advised that Tobago will be subjected to water rationing while the Desalination Plant continues expansion works at the Pt Lisas Plant.

WASA has a revised water schedule to be introduced for Tobago effective this Sunday.

WASA’s main water supplier, the Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago (Desalcott) has begun expansion works to increase the national water supply. Desalcott’s expected increase water supply target is to reach 40 million gallons per day (mgd) from its current 30 to 32 mgd. As a result of this, its main customer WASA has been reduced to half the water supply until the expansion works is complete.

The Desalination Plant will close half of its operations for seven days which will commence from July 5 and will run until July 11. This will be the plant’s third shutdown to facilitate its (Desalcott’s) expansion project since November.

Those living in Trinidad are already facing the water shortfall effects of the dry spell alert and water rationing due to the low reservoir water levels. WASA maintains there is a sufficient water supply, but reminded customers to practice good water conservation habits.

For further information, customers are encouraged to contact their representatives at: 778-4318, 307-1882, 776-1032, 490-9528, 778-4284, 775-2819, 758-5281, 710-8015 or its Customer Service bureau toll free at 800 4420/4426.
