According to police reports Morris Toppin of Margaret Cipriani Street, Kelly Village, drank a weedicide after he stabbed the woman.
Toppin, a father of three, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Arima District Health Centre. The incident occurred around 7 p.m, police said.
The victim of the attack, Lystra Bridgelal of Farm Road Kelly Village is said to be in a critical but stable condition at hospital.
Police said Bridgelal was coming from an nearby parlour when she was ambushed and attacked. Acting Corporal Singh is investigating.
