Sunshine Awards celebrates 25th anniversary in Tobago, USA

The Sunshine Awards Organisation announced yesterday it will celebrate its 25th anniversary with two milestone events. The first will be the Sunshine Awards Gala Ball, a black-tie event scheduled for October 12 at the Magdalena Grand Beach Resort in Tobago. The other event is the actual Sunshine Awards ceremony on November 2 in New York City, USA. The nominees for this year’s Sunshine Awards Hall of Fame will be inducted during the gala in Tobago by Dr Hollis “Chalkdust” Liverpool, who is co-founder of the Hall of Fame along with Gil Figaro.

The Sunshine Awards recognises and pays tribute to the creators, performers and promoters of art, dance, music, sports and poetry in the various Caribbean islands. Over the years, the programme has expanded in depth and breadth with a global view to include countries from Africa, South America and Central America. A special feature of the programme is the Sunshine Awards Hall of Fame established in 1989. In addition there is also the “Friend of the Arts” award, which is presented to individuals who have made substantial contributions and demonstrated a commitment to the preservation and development of various art forms of the aforementioned regions.
