Jevaugh Bruce of North Regional SDA Primary School |
THE top Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) pupil in Tobago is Jevaughn Bruce.
The 11-year-old, who attended the North Regional SDA School in Sandy River, Mason Hall, now moves on to Bishop’s High School. His parents are both teachers.
Bruce, who was all smiles at his school yesterday with his friends, ranks 178th among the top 200 pupils nationally.
According to statistics from the Division of Education in Tobago, there was an improvement in the total number of schools performing above the national average with 13 schools in 2014, compared with nine in 2013.
Bruce said he studied hard, prayed, and revised his formulas. He had this advice for other young persons: “They need to keep their eyes on God and keep striving for success.”
Bruce, a resident of Calder Hall, intends to be employed in the medical field or engineering. His mother Jenny Bruce is a teacher at Signal Hill Secondary, while his father is the principal at Des Vignes Road Primary School.
His father Vaughn Bruce told the Express his son was an A pupil from infants class, and he expected nothing but great things. He is also calling for more fathers to play an integral part in their children’s life.
“Well he studied, he played a lot, we fell out now and then, but you know I know he sees the reward for his hard work, and I know he is savouring the moment,” he said.
While his Standard Five teacher said Bruce excelled in every subject, he was the pupil every teacher would like to have. “Jevaughn was the perfect student. I had no problem. He did his work. If he had something wrong and he needed to correct it I would tell him and he would go right back and correct it,” Ariane Ford-Roach said.
The second and third placed pupils—Sherice Antoine and Rhonichelle Roberts—came from Hope Anglican School.
