Even as Trinidad and Tobago celebrated our 50th Anniversary, the barbaric rule attributed to master and slave still over shadows and manifests themselves within our law enforcement agencies. A video being shared all over the internet speaks volume to our Police Officers and how they execute their duties. It is clear from the video that one needs to examine the training these officers are exposed to or undergo. Moreover, one needs to critically, examine the levels of stress that may contribute to Officers displaying excessive force or aggression in accomplishing their task.
The propose on going psychometric examination of/for officers of law must become a reality. This would no doubt eliminate some of the Officers who would have been negatively affected by the nature of their job by either mandatory counselling sessions or removal from office. Not only would it protect citizens from barbaric thugs who wear our law enforcement uniforms, but also the reputation of the entire police force, thus allowing persons to once again have faith in the men and women we call Officers.
