A 65-year-old pastor yesterday appeared in court charged with committing sexual offences against a 13-year-old Form One pupil.
Cecil Maxman, of Kelly Village, Caroni, appeared before Magistrate Gillian Scotland in the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court.
The Baptist pastor was not called upon to enter a plea on the charges that between July 12 and 17 this year, he committed an act of grievous sexual assault and indecently assaulted the girl.
The charges were laid by Constable Ann Marie Singh. Maxman was unrepresented by counsel yesterday.
Police prosecutor Shiva Boodoo told the court that a tracing of Maxman’s criminal background was yet to be obtained by the police and it will be available at the next hearing of the matter.
Magistrate Gillian Scotland queried the distance Maxman lived from the alleged victim before she placed him on $35,000 bail.
The matter was adjourned to August 28.
On Thursday, Scotland placed Nicholas Kangalee on $75,000 bail and ordered him to stay 100 metres away from the 14-year-old child he allegedly buggered and committed four acts of grievous sexual assault upon.
Kangalee, 20, of Cunupia was also charged by Cpl Ken Ali with committing seven acts of sexual assault against the girl, including having sex with a female between the age of 14 and 16 years.
The offences were allegedly committed between June and July of this year in Carapichaima.
Kangalee, who was also granted an alternative cash bail of $10,000, was ordered to return to court on August 22.
