Tobago Businessman faces six Sex Charges

A prominent Tobago businessman, who is the father of a top Trinidad and Tobago international cyclist, will appear before the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court today to face six sex charges.

The man was arrested on Saturday in Tobago and taken to Scarborough Police Station, where the charges were laid. The businessman, of Whim Estate, faces the following charges:
• Having sex with a female under 14 years;
• Three charges of having sex with a female between the age of 14 and 16 years;
• One indecent assault charge; and
• One charge of grievous sexual assault.
According to police reports, the acts are alleged to have occurred between 2011 and 2014 at two places in Scarborough—Castries Street and Whim—with the same victim.
WPC Cox of Scarborough Police Station laid the charges.
This comes on the heels of the arrest of former school principal David Smith, who in February appeared in Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on 14 sex charges.
He was later placed on $400,000 bail.
