Trinidad Man Caught with 5.3 kilos of Ganja on T&T Spirit
A 60-year-old Cocorite man is scheduled to appear in the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court Friday charged with the possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking after he was allegedly caught on the inter-island ferry with the drugs.
According to police reports, around 8 pm on Thursday W/Sgt George and other members of the Tobago Task Force and the Scarborough CID received information on the possible transportation of narcotics on the inter-island ferry.
Guardian Media Limited understands that surveillance was conducted on vehicles disembarking the ferry and the man, who is said to be from John Street, Cocorite, was allowed to leave the Scarborough port compound.
However, he was pulled over on Wilson Road, near the Market Square carpark, where a search was carried out on his vehicle. Ten packets of compressed marijuana weighing 5.37 kilogrammes, with a street value of $60,000, was allegedly found and seized in the vehicle. He was immediately arrested.
The man is said to be a former navigator employed with the Port Authority who worked in the position for 42 years.
