THE Tobago House of Assembly (THA) and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) are being asked to work closer to better provide quality service to Tobagonians.
The call came from Minister of Housing, Land and Marine Affairs, Dr Roodal Moonilal on Wednesday following a meeting with assemblyman Huey Cadette, secretary in the Division of Labour and Settlements in the THA.
The meeting was in keeping with the mandate handed down by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar that all Cabinet members should establish regular contacts with their Tobago counterparts.
A media release issued yesterday stated, Moonilal and Cadette discussed a range of issues relating to the THA’s housing programme, including funding for the next fiscal year and roll out of the new construction phase. Moonilal indicated he had held some preliminary discussions with the Minister of Finance with respect to the question of funding.
Cadette said there are many Tobagonians who had access to lands, but did not have the resources to build on them.
Responding to concerns expressed about the servicing of HDC units in Tobago, Moonilal said the HDC would institutionalise more direct and regular contacts with the THA. \
